COSTA RICA TARPON FISHING

THE (ALMOST) SECRET SPOT

tarpon-fishing_manzanillo

When Christopher Columbus discovered Costa Rica, he landed just a few miles from a secret spot.

Well, not totally secret. But almost---until now.

On your Costa Rica vacation, check out Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Reserve along the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, nearly at the Panama border.

If you're a serious fisher, come here when you travel Costa Rica. You'll see where it is, just click for Costa Rica maps.

This is an extraordinary place. There are miles and miles of deserted beaches, some of the prettiest in Costa Rica.

Great beaches. Some world-famous Costa Rica Caribbean surfing beaches, click.

You’ll find

Crystal clear waters perfect for swimming, diving (you can rent equipment and even get PADI certified) and snorkeling (Costa Rica’s largest coral reefs are here)

Horseback riding, sea or river kayaking

Monkeys, sloths, colorful birds (350 species)

Crocodiles and Manatees

The rare and recently discovered Tucuxi Porpoise that lives in only one river in Costa Rica (it’s found in the Amazon river, too)

Sea turtle nesting sites (four species) and

Tarpon and snook. Lots of them.

In the sea, in the many lagoons.

Very little Costa Rica fishing pressure.

But when they're here, lots of fish!

When's the Best Time to Come?

Fishing is good year-round here but the best months for Tarpon Costa Rica fishing tend to be March, April, May and September through October.

And you may also be able to view sea turtles nesting. Depending upon the species and beach, you might see them anytime from March through September.

How to Get To Gandoca-Manzanillo

Unlike roadless Tortuguero Park to the north, there are good roads so the southern Caribbean coast is easily reached by car or bus.

Just go to Limon (on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast) and head south.

Keep going until the road ends!

And when you visit the Caribbean be sure to see one of Costa Rica's Seven Wonders. Click to get a quick tour of Tortuguero National Park.

500 years after Columbus discovered the “Rich Coast” you can now discover world-class tarpon fishing. . . and so much more.

On your Costa Rica vacation.

It'll be your secret. . .and mine.
