COSTA RICA FERRY
If your travel plans include visiting the marvelous Nicoya Peninsula. consider taking a Costa Rica ferry from Puntarenas to get to its fabulous beaches and adventures (easily reached by bus, car, or plane).
It’s dirt cheap, a couple of bucks for you (and about $10 more if you take a car). Not a lot of luxury and only snacks, but Hey! What do you expect for $2.00? No car? No problem. You’ll find buses waiting to take you to your Costa Rica travel destinations on the Nicoya Peninsula. Travel Tips DON'T WAIT TO GET TO THE FERRY UNTIL THE LAST MOMENT. YOU MAY FIND A VERY, VERY LONG LINE BECAUSE FERRIES DO NOT TAKE RESERVATIONS. AND. . .REMEMBER THAT EASTER WEEK (SANTA SEMANA) AND CHRISTMAS WEEK (NAVIDAD) ARE THE TWO MOST POPULAR VACATION WEEKS FOR TICOS (NOT TO MENTION ALL THE GRINGO VACATIONERS). Or, perhaps your destination is the nature-filled Osa Peninsula in southern Costa Rica. Almost deserted beaches, one of the last remaining remote areas in the country. Lots of wildlife. It’s easily reached by a ferry from Golfito. This ferry leaves Golfito at 11:30 a.m. and 90 minutes later you’ll find yourself in Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula. When you’re ready to return, take the 6:00 a.m. ferry from Puerto Jimenez to Golfito. It’s very cheap—--about $2.00 (that's about 1000 colones)—--but it doesn’t take cars.
