COSTA RICA BUTTERFLY FARMS

Costa Rica butterfly farms are popular Costa Rica attractions.

Though this country takes up only 1/10,000 of the earth's surface, nearly one of every 20 butterfly species is found here including the Calico Butterfly, the only butterfly in the world that makes a sound!
Here are a few gardens to visit on your Costa Rica vacation.

The Butterfly Farm San Jose

The oldest butterfly garden in the country and the first to commercially raise butterflies in Costa Rica, supplying chrysalides(pupas) to butterfly markets, today it offers a two hour guided tour everyday from 8:30-5:00 (get there by 3:00).

Just a few minutes from San Jose, you'll find the map to get to The Butterfly Farm here, click

La Paz Waterfall Garden Poas Volcano

butterfly-farms_la-paz-waterfall Poas Volcano National Park is one of the most popular parks in the country for Ticos and tourists alike.

You'll also find many other attractions nearby, including La Paz Waterfall Gardens, home to the largest waterfall in the country, lush botanical gardens, a hummingbird observatory, and the lovely new Butterfly Observatory.

Just a few miles from San Jose International, you'll find the Gardens and Poas Volcano, one of Costa Rica's Seven Wonders, click

Monteverde Butterfly Garden

Monteverde is another of Costa Rica's Seven Wonders but one of the least visited areas. When you travel Costa Rica, take some time to see it for yourself.

There are a number of different Costa Rica attractions here, including the Monteverde Butterfly Garden, offering a biodiversity center, medicinal plant garden, a live leaf cutter ant colony, and four climate-controlled farms for butterflies--each representing a different Costa Rica habitat.

50 different butterflies are raised from egg to adulthood here including the sound-producing Calico.

From butterfly gardens, to the largest bug exhibit in the world at nearby Selvatura, great orchids, and many activities, make it a point to visit the areas around Santa Elena, Selvatura and Monteverde Preserve, click here.
