YOUR COSTA RICA VACATION
DIVE COCOS ISLAND!
If you’re a serious diver, take your next Costa Rica vacation to Cocos Island. Considered by many to be one of the top ten scuba diving spots in the world and the very best big animal diving experience on the planet, granted World Heritage status, one of the Seven Wonders of Costa Rica, and under consideration as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Cocos is the Costa Rica scuba diving experience of a lifetime. Cocos Island is 300 miles offshore and mid-way between Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands. It’s the largest uninhabited island in the world (there are a handful of rangers there to protect it), the only island in the eastern Pacific to have rainforest, and some 200 waterfalls!
Jurassic Park or Treasure Island?
This amazing island is the inspiration for the two famous adventures: Robert Lewis Stevenson’s Treasure Island and Michael Crichton’s fictional island in Jurassic Park. Long John Silver may have been fictional but Benito “Bloody-Sword” Benito was a real pirate who buried a fabulous fortune on Cocos while on his Costa Rica vacation. Click here to find out about the
Devonshire Treasure.
Not one, but two great pirate fortunes were buried here, including the mother of all buried treasure! And nobody’s found them! When you travel Costa Rica, wouldn't you like to find them? Maybe you can! Click here for a real Costa Rica pirate map of the
Treasure of Lima.
There's Pirate Treasure Ashore
But the Real Treasure is Below
But, the true treasure here is the diving. With dive-sites all around the island, this is an extraordinary place.I don't use the word "extraordinary" lightly. Jacques Cousteau loved Cocos Island, describing it as "the most beautiful island in the world." 300 species of fish have been recorded around this one little island! This will be your Costa Rica adventure of a lifetime.
You’ll see the big guys on your Costa Rica vacation. Huge schools of hammerhead sharks, silvertip sharks, silky sharks, sailfish, marlin, giant manta rays, giant sea turtles, and the extraordinary whale shark. Take a video look at

And lots more! Large schools of jack and tuna and an incredible variety of reef life, from giant moray eels to lobster, and more little reef guys than you can imagine.
When to come? The best diving experience is May to December and if you want to see lots and lots of hammerhead sharks come in June, July, or August. Not to mention huge schools of fish, sea turtles, enormous whale sharks, even whales. For some of these whales, their trip to Costa Rica began in the Antarctic. This is a once-in-a lifetime experience. Click to watch this

Plan on about several days for this Costa Rica vacation adventure. Why? Because you’ve got 300 miles of open ocean! It'll take 30 or more hours just to get there! Remember, you're half-way to the Galapagos. Simply click to discover all the Cocos Island scuba diving sites on Map 13 of our

For Centuries, Others Left Their Voices on Cocos
For centuries, seamen have left carved rock messages on the shores of Cocos when on their Costa Rica vacation. From long-dead Pacific whalers to the crew of Jacques Cousteau. Many wrote their names, where they came from, and when they were there. Like Kilroy, they were here. And, you can be too. Diving the most beautiful island on earth, walking the shores once visited by pirates. Maybe you’ll even find buried treasure. Pura Vida!
