costa-rica-scuba-diving_rays

Want some thrilling Costa Rica scuba diving along the Pacific Nicoya Peninsula?

With more than 40 different dive locations?

With lots of fish, sometimes sea turtles and whales?

Offshore some of the best beaches in all of Costa Rica?

Seventeen great Gold Coast Costa Rica beaches! Click here

Dive Catalinas Island to the Bat Islands

You'll find some great Costa Rica scuba diving along a chain of small Pacific islands beginning a few miles offshore of Playa Ocotal and extending north along Playa Hermosa and Playas Cocos.

The Nicoya Peninsula coastline along here is a very popular tourist destination (Tamarindo is just a few miles south) and can be reached either from Liberia International Airport (less than an hour away) or by car or bus from San Jose International Airport (the nation’s capitol). Don't know where these Costa Rica beaches are? Click here and look at Map 2

Catalinas Island is a few miles offshore from Ocotal and an easy Costa Rica trip by boat.

Some of the local dive pros say that the best water clarity there is from December through May (sometimes out to 75') but, whenever you dive, you'll see many kinds of species including (this list is NOT exhaustive) grouper, snappers, jacks, sharks, barracudas and lots of brightly colored smaller species.

And did I mention big schools of rays? Click here for video!

costa-rica-scuba-diving_bat-islands The Bat Islands (Murcielagos Islands) are north of Catalinas and farther offshore.

Dives here are usually for more experienced divers and can go down to 100 feet or more.

You'll explore some interesting walls but at least some of the dive companies will require you to dive with them somewhere else first so they can see you are suited for this more demanding descent.

Local pros say the best dive months for the Bat Islands are March through November.

Then you you'll see lots of sharks, different kinds of rays, pompano, snapper, wahoo, and sometimes massive schools of other fish. You'll find several dive companies in this area that'll rent equipment and take you to the best places.

Don't worry if you've never scuba dived before. Some of these places will teach you to dive and become PADI (dive) certified.

With at least 40 different diving sites along this part of the Gold Coast, you can see everything from teeny (3”long) sea horses to gigantic (35’ long) whale sharks, porpoises to whales on your Costa Rica adventure. I have a map of dive sites for you. Just click here and go to Map 12

And you'll know why Costa Rica scuba diving has become so popular!

Back on Shore

It's here because I want to be sure you realize that the Gold Coast has many, many things to do.

Dive as much as you like.

But save some time for an amazing array of other activities on the Nicoya Peninsula while on your Costa Rica vacation. Fishing, whitewater rafting, touring canopies, zip-lining, snorkeling, wave-running, sailing, horseback riding, visiting spectacular parks or volcanoes.

But why this particular picture? Because, if you like to surf or watch surfers, there are world famous surfing beaches right here!
