COSTA RICA HOSTELS: TAMARINDO
Costa Rica's fabulous Gold Coast has some of its great beaches and expensive resorts but Costa Rica hostels around Tamarindo still offer great value.
You can spend your days at the same beaches as the rich and famous and pass your nights in your favorite haunt in Tamarindo. . . and still save a lot of bucks.
When considering Tamarindo hotels Costa Rica has lots from which to choose---and for every budget---and these cheap Costa Rica hotels are the place of choice for many Costa Rica vacations.
All right, they may not be the accommodation of choice for your Costa Rica honeymoon but for most everything else, they may be just what you are looking for.
Remember that rates may vary from what you see on this page, depending upon the season, whether there is air conditioning, and whether you are booking online. It is always a good idea to compare prices from booking companies and Costa Rica hostels themselves (sometimes the booking companies are cheaper).
High season is from mid-November to April 30 (and in some places all of July, too).
Christmas holiday season is from around December 20-January 4 and Holy Week season is the week preceding and including Easter. If you are planning to visit one of the Costa Rica hostels here during either holiday season, you will need to make reservations well in advance.
Getting To Tamarindo and More
Tamarindo and the surrounding beaches---north and south---are among the most popular Costa Rica vacations spots for thousands of tourists each year.
Most people begin their Costa Rica vacations, of course, by flying into San Jose, then travel Costa Rica from there.
There is a public bus company "Empresa Alfaro" located in San Jose on Calle 16 between Avenida 3 and Avenida 5. The cost to Tamarindo is about $7.00 and the trip takes about 6 hours.

There are also private bus companies from San Jose to Tamarindo, including Interbus and Grayline. The cost is about $30 or so and travel time approximately 5 hours.
And, of course, if you have a Costa Rica rental car, you can drive. The roads are, by and large, quite good.
Some folks prefer to take a flight from San Jose to Tamarindo. There are several air carriers making that trip and the cost will be about $100 and up. If you have a surfboard, be sure your board will get on the same plane!
