Most people who travel Costa Rica don't realize it's one of the most biologically intense places on earth with a staggering 500,000 different kinds of plants and animals. To put that number into perspective, consider this: although it's only about the size of little West Virginia nearly 5% of all of the species of plants and animals live here. That's one reason Costa Rica vacations are world-famous. Birdwatchers come because there as many types of birds here as in America and Canada combined. Whale watchers come because Costa Rica's whales come from both the Arctic and Antarctic and the whale watching season is the longest in the world.
