Costa Rica Whale Watching

Costa Rica has some of the world's best whale watching.

Because of a geological phenomenon called "the Dome" off the coast of Costa Rica, an incredible variety of whales and porpoises visit.

Humpback whales from the Antarctic swim north 11,500 miles to winter in the clear waters while humpback whales from the Arctic swim nearly as far to winter here offering Costa Rica tourists the world's longest season for whale watching, click not to mention so many kinds, like the blue whale (largest animal in the history of the planet) to the odd and rare beaked whale.

Every August 2, up to two million Catholic Roman faithful pilgrimage to Cartago, a small city about 15 miles from San Jose, to celebrate La Negrita, the Black Madonna, which arrived mysteriously---some would say miraculously---in 1635.

Whether you participate in the Pilgrimage or simply want to view and touch the Black Virgin Mary, it's one of the great historical Costa Rica attractions, so sacred that the Vatican has declared your sins will be saved simply by visiting.
